How do we define compassion? This survey is designed to collect peoples definitions of compassion along with some additional information - totally confidential. Take the survey and add your definition to the database. It is quick and easy!
Preliminary results from the survey on defining compassion can be found here. There is a discussion of sampling. There are also color graphs with comments for each graph. More analysis is anticipated in the future.

What would a science of compassion look like? Here is a proposed description of the basic elements to be contained within a science of compassion. Discussed are the following: definition, assumptions, descriptions of phenomena, research, community, teaching.
Why do we need to study compassion? Present in the public discourse about compassion is the idea that study into compassion is a waste of time. Here there is an argument for why it is important to study compassion. This argument is provided for support to those who wish to speak on behalf of compassion education in our society.
The science of compassion is just in its infancy. There is so much research that needs to be done. Here is a list of sugested research along with brief descriptions.
